Proposal: “Let’s Create a National 5A Scenic Area—Promote Civilized Dining Practices, One of Us at a Time”

Dear residents of the Lushan Xihai Scenic Area and friends in the catering industry:
“Every bowl of porridge and every grain of rice reminds us how hard-won they are; every thread and every bit of fabric reminds us that resources are always hard to come by.” To actively implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, promote a positive, uplifting, scientific, and healthy lifestyle, carry forward the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting labor, cherishing food, and practicing thrift and simplicity, and foster a strong atmosphere throughout the region for striving to become a 5A-level scenic area and a civilized tourist destination, the Market Supervision Administration of Lushan Xihai Scenic Area hereby issues the following initiative:
First, we must promote traditional virtues and encourage rational consumption. The catering industry should actively advocate a dining culture of “civilized dining and zero food waste.” Restaurants should display signs or posters such as “Save Food, Say No to Waste” to guide customers toward ordering “N-1 dishes” and achieving “deliciousness N+1.”
Second, operate with integrity and in compliance with the law, and fulfill social responsibilities. The catering industry must strictly adhere to laws and standards related to food safety, equip tables with clearly distinguishable communal utensils such as “shared chopsticks and spoons,” making them a standard feature on every dining table. Actively encourage consumers to use these communal utensils when serving themselves food. Standardize business practices, clearly display prices, and act with honesty and trustworthiness to safeguard consumers’ legitimate rights and interests.
Third, put the green理念 into practice and promote a culture of thrift. All citizens should actively participate in the “Clean Plate Campaign” and be advocates for food conservation. Practice rational consumption, order only what you need, avoid leaving any food or dishes uneaten, and say “no” to food waste on our plates. Refuse to consume wild animals and reject the false notion that “wild game is health-enhancing”; refuse to use single-use, non-biodegradable tableware, and embrace a green and environmentally friendly mindset.
4. Uphold civility and morality, and pay attention to dining etiquette. All residents are encouraged to practice table manners when dining out, observe dining order, cherish the dining environment, avoid loud talking and boisterous behavior, refrain from smoking in non-smoking areas, and not bring pets into restaurants.
A small dining table, a big civilization. Let’s take action—starting with every single meal—to shake hands with civility and bid farewell to bad habits, spreading love and passing on civility! Let’s use our actions to showcase the wonderful image of the Lushan Xihai Scenic Area.
