June 5 marks the 49th World Environment Day. This year, China’s theme is “A Beautiful China—You and I Are the Actors.” To better protect aquatic ecosystems, on June 4, the Jiujiang Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment and the Lushan West Sea Scenic Area jointly organized a series of environmental public welfare activities themed “Ecological Stocking and Release—Protecting the Crystal-Clear Waters of the Lake,” with over 100 people participating in total.

The event began at 10 a.m. with the award ceremony for the “2020 Jiujiang’s Most Beautiful Environmental Protectors.” Following the awards presentation, representatives from among the most beautiful environmental protectors and environmental volunteer groups delivered speeches. Afterwards, the stocking and release of fish commenced. It is reported that this release included 4,000 jin (approximately 80,000 fish) of winter-fry species such as grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp, and black carp—each averaging over 10 centimeters in length. All fish had undergone rigorous testing before being released, and their survival rate exceeded 95%. At the conclusion of the event, a “Green Living, We’re All in This Together”—on-site health walk was also held.

In recent years, the Lushan West Sea Scenic Area has adhered to the development philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," effectively ensuring that development is carried out while preserving the environment and that environmental protection is integrated into the development process. The area has put into practice the “Six-Head System”—including the River Chief System, Section Chief System, Island Chief System, Road Chief System, Boat Chief System, and Worksite Chief System—and is accelerating the construction of the nation’s first outdoor natural ecological science education demonstration base, thereby setting an exemplary model for ecological conservation within the scenic area.

The series of environmental protection public welfare activities launched this time aims to mobilize the entire society to pay closer attention to environmental protection, care for our shared home, and more consciously assume responsibility for safeguarding the environment by actively engaging in green living practices.
