The Lushan West Sea Scenic and Historic Area is located in northern Jiangxi Province, in the southwestern part of Jiujiang City. It is an “ecological gem” set amidst the fertile lands of Jiangxi and Poyang Lake, and stands as a unique, large-scale mountain–lake scenic area that integrates multiple national designations: a National Scenic and Historic Area, a National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction, a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area, a National Forest Park, China’s largest earth-dam reservoir, a model Buddhist forest monastery at the national level, one of the first national bases for study-and-practice education for primary and secondary school students, a National Demonstration Base for Sports Tourism, a National Premium Scenic Area for Sports Tourism, and one of the first high-quality outdoor sports destinations in the country. The West Sea covers a water surface of 308 square kilometers, with an average depth of 45 meters and visibility reaching 11 meters; atmospheric negative oxygen ion concentrations can soar to as high as 150,000 per cubic centimeter. The water quality is classified as Grade I nationally, and the air quality as Grade I as well, making it a vital breeding and habitat for the “panda of the aquatic world”—the peach blossom jellyfish. More than 8,000 islands are scattered across the waters like emerald gems strewn upon a jade platter. Islands embrace one another, bridges link them, and boats glide gracefully through the endless expanse of azure waves, creating a scene straight out of a poem or a painting. Iconic landmarks such as Love Island, Canghai Yishu, Yunju Pagoda, and Jinlong Bridge captivate visitors with their ethereal beauty, earning the area the reputation of “China’s most breathtaking lakeside and mountainous scenery.” This region boasts a profound cultural heritage, with enduring traditions spanning dam-building culture, Zen meditation culture, Wei Yuan culture, immigrant culture, and the culture of the Xiu River. Its tourism resources are equally abundant: visitors can enjoy citrus-picking, participate in fishing events drawing thousands of anglers, experience the lively, down-to-earth charm of Zhelin Old Town, gallop across the seaside horse ranch, play on the picturesque island pickleball courts, and savor a perfect encounter with the fiery hues of the evening glow spreading across the sky.
