This is a young sea originally known as Zhelin Lake. Asia’s largest earth dam, built across the 700-li Xiushui River, has raised the water level, turning mountains into islands. Located to the west of Mount Lu, and given that Jiangxi was historically referred to as “Jiangnan Xidao,” it came to be called Lushan West Sea. Starting in the 1950s, nearly 100,000 laborers—carrying burdens on their shoulders and backs—spent nearly three decades painstakingly transforming the landscape into the breathtaking scenery we see today.
