Lushan West Sea: Upholding ecological priority and making every effort to protect the "clear waters of the lake."
2019-11-28
In recent years, Lushan West Sea has consistently been guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Ecological Civilization and the spirit of ecological civilization construction articulated at the 19th National Congress, following the environmental protection requirements and directives issued by the central, provincial, and municipal authorities. Upholding the development philosophy that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” Lushan West Sea is striving to become an internationally renowned eco-tourism and vacation destination.
Through measures such as rigorous planning to guide conservation, emphasizing development to promote conservation, optimizing creation to advance conservation, strengthening law enforcement to consolidate conservation, and improving mechanisms to jointly build conservation, Lushan West Sea has established six high-level supervision and coordination systems: the Road Chief System, Island Chief System, Boat Captain System, Worksite Supervisor System, Project Responsibility System, and Inspection and Supervision System. Meanwhile, in response to the key and prominent issues currently facing the scenic area—such as illegal fishing, unauthorized passenger transport, unlicensed piers, illegal construction, illicit discharge of pollutants, and illegal sand mining—a comprehensive “Six Prohibitions” enforcement campaign is being carried out across the entire region.
[Yu Dandan, Environmental Protection Bureau of Lushan West Sea] First, we’ve formed a “Six-Illegal” Rectification Task Force by collaborating with several departments to carry out comprehensive law enforcement and put an end to illegal fishing and unauthorized angling. Second, we’ve established a regular monitoring mechanism for key bays and sensitive areas. Third, this year we conducted a thorough survey of all discharge outlets entering the lake basin, and immediately issued improvement notices for any issues identified. Let’s protect our West Sea—preserving its pristine mountains and crystal-clear waters.
