The fossil assemblage of primitive jellyfish is located along Yongwu Highway, on the southern bank of Zhalin Lake Dam. The fossils are preserved on the upper surface of siliceous rock in Piyuan Village; most of them appear as concave, circular to elliptical impressions, with a few exhibiting upwardly convex shapes. Their diameters typically range from 8 to 10 centimeters, with the largest reaching up to 28 centimeters. The fossil density is 5 specimens per square meter, and these fossils are often associated with cylindrical trace fossils. The fossils were identified by Professor Yang Shibao from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) as belonging to the genus PrtomedHsa—a genus of primitive jellyfish—and their stratigraphic isotopic age ranges from 570 to 650 million years. This new discovery of such a paleontological assemblage represents the first-ever finding of its kind in Jiangxi Province and marks an important advance in the study of the Ediacaran Period in Jiangxi. The sheer number of fossils, their large size, and their exceptionally well-preserved state are rare worldwide.
