Chen Yinke (July 3, 1890 – October 7, 1969), courtesy name He Shou, was from Jiangxi. Alongside Ye Qisun, Pan Guangdan, and Mei Yiqi, he is regarded as one of the four great philosophers in Tsinghua’s century-long history. And—with... Lü Simian Chen Yuan, Qian Mu Together, they are known as the “Four Great Masters of Early Historiography.” He successively held positions and taught at Tsinghua University, Southwest Associated University, Guangxi University, Yenching University, Sun Yat-sen University, and other institutions.
Chen Yinke’s father, Chen Sanli, was “ The Four Gentlemen of the Late Qing Dynasty “One of them was a renowned poet. His grandfather, Chen Baozhen, had served as the Governor of Hunan. His wife, Tang Yun, was the granddaughter of Tang Jingsong, who had been the Governor of Taiwan. Because of his distinguished family background and extraordinary scholarly talent, when he taught at Tsinghua University, he was affectionately known as ‘the grandson of a gentleman, and the professor of professors.’”
